HMAS Platypus

About This Project

HMAS Platypus is a former submarine base and a heritage site in Sydney Harbour. It was decommissioned in 1999 and transferred to the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust in 2005. The Trust has been working to restore and revitalise the site for public access and enjoyment. One of the initiatives undertaken by the Trust is to install a 99.6kW solar system on the roof of the Fleet Intermediate Maintenance Activity (FIMA) building, which was used for submarine maintenance and repair.

By installing the solar system, we have helped HMAS Platypus to reduce its carbon footprint, lower its energy costs, and increase its sustainability. We have also contributed to the preservation of a historic site that showcases the naval and industrial heritage of Sydney.
